Contec-biz.com was started by Dr. Lee Khai Sheang, an Associate Professor (Department of Marketing) at the NUS Business School and Ritchie Ri, NUS MBA Alumni.

The aim of this project was to create an online software to generate marketing and business plans. The objective was to make writing marketing/business plans simple enough for users who had no prior experience doing so.

A complete business plan has 10-12 sections including Executive Summary, Target Market, Position Strategy, Competitive Strategy and Cash Flow Projection. Each section in turn has on average 30 fields to be filled up. This project was a real challenge of usability. We first started by breaking down each section into smaller sub-questions. Next, to further simplify the interface, instead of having a page strewn with text boxes and form fields, we organized the page to resemble a spreadsheet with the clever use of AJAX. To reduce the amount of text on the page, we isolated the help text of each section and made it into a scrolling help box, where only the relevant help text would display dependent on which section the user is editing. To better manage the sheer information from the different Business Plan editor packages - BizPitch, BizViability, BizPlan, we created a Content Management backend to allow the clients to customize and develop more plans with greater ease in future. In additional, Techsailor also built a payment system into Contec-biz complete with location-based pricing so that the price-points can be adjusted for clients from different geographical locations.
